These beautiful images, are created using a pretty whiz bang (another favourite saying of my french husband) technique. These images, whose colours let me hark back to memories of fluro scunchies and 3 quarter tights, were created by the Swiss photographer Fabian Oefner. It seems a liquid called ferrofluid is the hero of the hour but it's all a bit scientific for my artsy brain, so let me quote from geek.com. Ferrofluid is 'basically a liquid that, when placed in a magnetic field becomes strongly magnetized. This is due to the liquid containing ferromagnetic particles. Ferrofluids are also superparamagnets, as they don’t remain magnetized once the magnetic field is removed.'
Your mate Fabian combines watercolours with ferrofluids while he's cranking the magnetic field and the result is a little bit awesome. I'm not sure if I love the photo's as much as I love the process. It must be amazing watching these liquids dancing with each other to create something so uniform, so designed yet it does it so randomly. You can take a squiz at more of his work, which includes photos of bursting soap bubbles and balloons at his website or if you'd like some background info to how he does it go to his blog site.
